Commissioning
The term commissioning is a very personal one for us as this is how Dragt & Associates was started. Commissioning is one of the most important aspects of any HVAC installation and is sadly often overlooked. It ensures that the correct equipment has been installed, that the equipment is providing what is required as well as having a record for any future maintenance that may be required to return the system to a “commissioned state”. We have all the required instruments to measure & analyse water flows, water pressures, air flows, air pressures as well as velocities and pressure drops. A deep understanding of these measured figures can help with projects that have stalled or cannot progress any further due to non-performance of certain equipment. Sometimes, the solutions are easier than you think and we can help to have the job back on track and profitable again.
Lists of commissioning equipment:
- Balometer (Airflow hood) – For measuring airflows from supply or extract air terminals.
- Digital manometer (Water) – For measuring water pressures and pressure drops across cooling coils, chillers, strainers & balancing valves
- Digital manometer (Air) – For measuring air pressure, pressure drops & static pressures in ducting and across dampers. This is especially useful in locating blockages or restrictions in ducting that otherwise could not be seen.
- Ultrasonic Flow meter – We are extremely proud of this piece of equipment as it allows us to measure water flows in piping, in real time, without the need for test points to be installed. An example of this would be the measuring of water flows in pipe risers between floors where it would otherwise be impossible to measure.
- Digital & Analogue handheld anemometers – For measuring of air velocities. These are used to calculate total airflows as well as indicate if the velocities are exceeding the maximum allowable by the manufactures.
- Pitot Tubes – For measuring duct velocities at any given point in the ducting layout, provided enough straight duct is available.
- Sound/Decibel Meter – To ensure that the system is adhering to the noise levels as stipulated by the consulting engineer or the levels required for a particular application.
- Digital Refrigeration manifold gauges – These are not just any gauges but rather a holistic view of the refrigeration circuit in order to determine if the system is running at an optimal level or if there are any issues that require attention. Real-time refrigeration data such as Suction & Discharge pressure, pipe temperatures, Superheat, Sub-Cooling and many others can be seen at the touch of a button.
All the above equipment is calibrated every year to ensure that we provide you with the most accurate results in the shortest possible time.
